Nukuatea Shark Point
Wallis Island · France
The small islet of Nukuatea at the northern tip of the lagoon sits at a convergence of currents that brings nutrients and baitfish, which in turn draw an impressive concentration of sharks. Whitetip reef sharks rest on the sandy bottom at 25 metres, blacktips cruise the shallower reef, and bull sharks have been recorded here in the pass channel. Eagle rays and schools of fusiliers round out the spectacle. Experienced divers only when currents are running.
