North Point Reef
Watamu & Malindi · Kenya
Near the northern boundary of the Malindi Marine National Park, North Point Reef is a broad sloping reef that transitions from a rubble-and-coral mixed zone in the shallows down to a sand flat at 28 metres dotted with garden eels and garden coral patches. The site is less visited than Watamu's inner lagoon sites, which means larger and bolder fish. Eagle rays glide over the sand, reef whitetip sharks rest on the bottom through the day, and the resident Napoleon wrasse here are among the largest in Kenya. Nudibranchs, flatworms, and ribbon eels reward patient macro divers in the coral rubble zones. Night dives reveal Spanish dancers, hunting octopus, and sleeping parrotfish cocooned in mucus.
