Scuba Season
Underwater at Mola Point

Mola Point

Wolf Island · Ecuador

The western headland of Wolf Island rises from 40 m and hosts the highest recorded mola mola (ocean sunfish) encounter rates in the Galápagos, particularly from July through October when cool Humboldt water pushes surface temperatures below 20 °C. Mola sunfish gather along the wall at 15 to 30 m depth where marine iguanas and brightly coloured wrasse pick parasites from their flanks — a cleaning station dynamic rarely observed elsewhere. Galápagos sea lions tumble through the blue water above while silky sharks cruise the outer column. Current runs consistently moderate to strong along this exposed face.
