Manta City
Yaeyama Manta Coast · Japan
Manta City is a secondary aggregation site east of the main Manta Scramble ridge, where a series of coral bommies at 12 to 18 metres act as dedicated cleaning stations that mantas visit on a different tidal phase from the main site, effectively doubling dive opportunity windows across a single day. The bommies are colonised by dense populations of cleaner wrasse and cleaner shrimp, and the service they provide is so valued by the local manta population that individual rays will wait in a loose queue hovering above the station before their turn. Beyond mantas, Manta City's deeper profile supports large grouper, resting nurse sharks in the coral crevices, and the occasional oceanic triggerfish passing through from open water. The site is a logical second dive after Manta Scramble North and is typically calmer during the afternoon tidal phase.
