Underwater at Mil Channel

Mil Channel

Yap · Micronesia

Mil Channel is Yap's premier manta ray cleaning station and the site that put this island on the global dive map. Oceanic and reef mantas glide into the channel on incoming tides to be groomed by cleaner wrasse on coral heads in as little as 5 metres of water. Divers kneel on sandy patches and watch the mantas pass overhead at close range, often in groups of five or more. The channel also holds grey reef sharks, white tip reef sharks, and large schools of fusiliers along the walls.
