Underwater at Drawaqa Passage

Drawaqa Passage

Yasawa Islands · Fiji

Drawaqa Passage runs between Drawaqa and Naviti islands as a narrow tidal channel that concentrates plankton-rich water during the November to May manta season, drawing aggregations of reef manta rays that feed in the surface layer and dive down to cleaning stations on the reef below. Outside manta season the passage is equally compelling, with schooling fish in the hundreds hovering in the current and occasional hammerheads cruising the channel floor. The site's relative isolation from the main tourist route means dive boats often have the water entirely to themselves.
