Loggerheads use Marathonisi's sandy bays as the most significant Mediterranean nesting site, with females returning each summer to lay clutches of roughly 100 eggs. Outside nesting season adults forage on the seagrass meadows and rocky reef patches throughout Laganas Bay, making sightings almost certain on any dive here.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
