Thriving
El Hierro
Spain · Canary Islands
El Hierro anchors the western tip of the Canary Islands and hosts the Mar de las Calmas Biosphere Reserve, Europe's most pristine subtropical marine protected area. Angel sharks rest on sandy channels, schooling barracuda and amberjack patrol seamount ridges, and massive dusky groupers hold territory around volcanic boulders. Extraordinary visibility — regularly 30 to 50 metres — and minimal boat traffic make this the least crowded and most rewarding diving in the archipelago.
