Elphinstone Reef — Plateau and Walls
Egypt · Red Sea
Elphinstone is a 375 m cigar-shaped offshore reef aligned north to south, 12 km off Marsa Alam. Four distinct dive zones each offer a different character: the north tip gathers hammerheads in summer, the saddle between the plateaus funnels strong currents and pelagics, the south wall is draped in Dendronephthya soft corals to 40 m, and the north wall plunges into oceanic blue where silvertips and threshers make occasional passes. Day boats from Marsa Alam reach the site in 60 to 90 minutes.
