St Eustatius (Statia)
Netherlands (Caribbean) · Caribbean
St Eustatius, universally known as Statia, punches far above its size as a dive destination. The entire marine area surrounding the island is protected within the Statia Marine Park, meaning every shipwreck and every coral formation falls under active conservation management. Statia's colonial past as the busiest trading port in the 18th-century Atlantic left dozens of wrecks on the seafloor, including well-preserved anchors and cannons from that era alongside WWII-era vessels. Healthy hard-coral pinnacles rise from 30 metres to within 15 metres of the surface, and horse-eye jack tornadoes and blacktip reef sharks patrol the walls year round. The uncrowded conditions and genuinely pristine reef ecosystem make Statia a favourite among experienced Caribbean divers.
