Silky sharks patrol the outer edge of Sebastião Gomes reef, taking advantage of the strong currents that concentrate prey species around the pinnacles. They are more pelagic than reef sharks and arrive here from open-ocean circuits that span hundreds of kilometers, making each encounter a reminder of the vast marine landscape this site connects to. Their sleek, streamlined bodies and fluid movement make them one of the most graceful large predators in the Atlantic.
