European Sea Bass

Dicentrarchus labrax

Sighting evidence at Porto Palermo Submarine Tunnel, Albania

Porto Palermo's sheltered bay and tunnel entrance currents concentrate juvenile and adult European sea bass in notable numbers, the sleek silver predators hanging in loose aggregations at the tunnel mouth where current-borne prey congregates. Sea bass are among the most commercially important species in the Mediterranean and their abundance in this partially protected bay suggests the limited fishing pressure inside the harbour perimeter is allowing a local population to stabilise. They are most active at dawn and dusk, making early morning dives at the tunnel entrance particularly rewarding.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
