Conger eels up to 2 metres inhabit the deeper sections of Sazan's larger wrecks, their pale bodies visible in torch beams illuminating bilge spaces and under-deck voids. Congers are solitary and highly territorial, occupying the same den site for years and only leaving to spawn once in their lifetime — a migratory journey from which they do not return. Their calm, slow movements and impressive size make them one of the most compelling wreck wildlife encounters in the Adriatic.

Conger Eel is listed as a curated species here based on historical reports.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
