The enclosed spaces of Sazan's wrecks provide ideal habitat for Mediterranean moray eels, which colonise engine rooms, torpedo tubes, and hull penetrations, their muscular bodies wedged into tight apertures with only the characteristic head protruding. Morays on these wrecks have grown accustomed to divers over the past decade and frequently accept observation at close range, making wreck photography extraordinarily rewarding. At night they emerge onto the wreck exteriors to hunt, creating active and dramatic scenes in torchlight.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
