Fast-moving schools of amberjack appear at the reef's drop-off from April through November, attracted by the baitfish that aggregate at depth transitions. They are apex reef predators that can reach 1.8 metres and are known to circle divers out of apparent curiosity. Their high energy demands mean they follow prey schools as water temperatures shift seasonally.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
