Hawksbills are resident at Pillars of Hercules, resting on ledges within the cave systems and foraging on sponges attached to the wall face. Their presence here reflects the site's healthy sponge diversity, which provides the specialist diet these critically endangered turtles depend on. Encounters at 8–15 metres are common during any dive.
