Turtle Point hosts one of the most concentrated green turtle populations in the Philippines. Decades of community protection under Apo Island's marine sanctuary have allowed nesting females to return reliably and juveniles to recruit into the population. Turtles here are so accustomed to divers they allow close observation without behavioral change — a condition achieved only where human pressure has been consistently low for multiple generations of animals.

Green Sea Turtle is listed as a curated species here based on historical reports.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
