Overview
Socotra, often called the 'Galápagos of the Indian Ocean,' offers a unique underwater experience with diverse marine life. The island's isolated location has fostered a rich ecosystem with potential for encountering pelagic species and endemic reef fish, set against dramatic underwater landscapes.
Briefing note
Access to Socotra can be challenging due to ongoing geopolitical situations in Yemen. Permits are required and typically arranged through local tour operators. Diving infrastructure may be limited.

Sources & methodology
How we summarise this
We aggregate confirmed occurrence records from GBIF and OBIS within a fixed radius of each dive site. Occurrence records confirm presence and reveal seasonality clustering, but they DO NOT measure per-dive probability — there is no eligible-effort denominator. We deliberately do not publish a numeric '% chance of sighting' from this data.
