Green sea turtles are resident at San Juan year-round, grazing on the seagrass beds in the shallows and resting on the sandy bottom during the heat of the day. Several individuals have been observed for years at this site and show little concern for approaching divers, making behavioral observation photography straightforward. The reef's protected status within Batangas Bay has allowed the turtle population to stabilize after decades of hunting pressure.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
