Bonded pairs maintain territories across the upper terrace, their jet-black scales edged in gold making them among the most photogenic residents of the wall. They feed cooperatively on sponges, tunicates and algae — the pair patrolling together and reinforcing territorial boundaries against neighbouring pairs. Juvenile French angelfish operate cleaning stations on the terrace, removing parasites from goliath grouper and other large clients throughout the day.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
