Sighting evidence at Padre Nuestro Cave, Bayahibe
The stalactites and stalagmites of Padre Nuestro formed during the last glacial maximum when sea levels were 120 metres lower and the cave was entirely above water. Their presence confirms the cave's geological age and provides anchor points for a delicate microbial community that forms the base of the cave food web.
