Sal Rei Wrecks
Boa Vista · Cape Verde
Just off the harbour of Sal Rei, Boa Vista's main town, several wrecks of varied ages rest in 8 to 22 m of clear water on a sandy floor that has been colonised by one of the most complete artificial reef communities in the Cape Verde islands. The largest wreck, a merchant vessel, is encrusted in yellow and purple sponges while lionfish, grouper, and resident moray eels occupy every cabin and hold. Night dives here are exceptional, with octopus hunting in the open sand, Spanish lobsters emerging from crevices, and spotted moray eels pursuing prey through the superstructure.
