Spotted morays are the most numerous large vertebrate residents of the Sal Rei wrecks, with multiple individuals of varying sizes occupying virtually every compartment of the larger vessels. They are active hunters at night and can be watched pursuing fish through the wreck's narrow passages, using their ribbon-like form to pursue prey that larger predators cannot follow into confined spaces. Day divers regularly encounter them resting half-emerged from portholes and gunwale openings, mouths working in their characteristic respiratory rhythm.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
