Dusky grouper are territorial and long-lived, and the individuals at Ildiz have become accustomed to divers, allowing close approach. They occupy the deeper ledges and overhangs from 15 metres down, emerging to feed on damselfish and wrasse that swarm the upper pinnacle. Their presence here is a sign of relatively low fishing pressure and healthy reef structure.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
