Striped Bream

Lithognathus mormyrus

Sighting evidence at Agios Gordios Reef, Corfu

Large schools of striped bream patrol the sandy terraces between reef sections, using their fleshy lips to excavate invertebrates from the sand. They are highly gregarious and move in coordinated sweeps across the bottom, disturbing the sediment and creating feeding opportunities for following wrasse and mullet. Their striped flanks flash silver in the Ionian light, making dense schools a spectacular sight from above.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
