The low fishing pressure around Ereikoussa means grouper here are conspicuously larger and less wary than on mainland dive sites. Large males hold territories over the deeper reef sections below 15 metres, emerging to investigate divers with a boldness rarely seen in fished areas. Their territorial behaviour and tolerance of divers makes them the de facto ambassadors for the site's protected character.

Dusky Grouper is listed as a curated species here based on historical reports.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
