Mediterranean Moray

The rocky reef edges at Kavos Bay shelter a high density of morays, with several dens occupied by morays of different sizes within a small area. Cleaner wrasse service stations are active throughout the day, with morays opening their jaws wide to permit cleaning of the gill chambers. At night, morays leave their dens to hunt actively, and encounters with free-swimming individuals over the sandy flat are common on night dives.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
