Yellow Cluster Anemone

Parazoanthus axinellae

Sighting evidence at Paleokastritsa Wall, Corfu

Colonies of brilliant yellow parazoanthus anemones coat entire sections of the wall face below 12 metres, forming a living mosaic that glows in torch light. Each individual polyp extends feathery tentacles to filter plankton from the current that sweeps the wall face. The colonies grow in close association with encrusting sponges, and the combination of yellow, orange, and red creates one of the Mediterranean's most colourful macro landscapes.
