Cap Corse's cave systems and deep overhangs shelter significant red coral beds, particularly on north-facing walls below 25 m where light is low and temperatures stable. These colonies were heavily harvested historically but have partially recovered in less accessible areas. The deep reef at Cap Corse represents one of the better remaining red coral habitats in the northern Mediterranean.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
