Adult dusky groupers of 60 to 80 centimetres hold territory on the deeper ledges, acting as apex predators that regulate fish-prey populations across the reef. They are a protected species in Tunisian waters and their presence here reflects the relative absence of spearfishing pressure. Juveniles settle in the Posidonia meadows, maturing over a decade before transitioning from female to male.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
