Galapagos sharks are consistently visible outside La Catedral's main arch, circling in the blue water as divers navigate through the structure. The arch creates a natural funnel for fish movement that concentrates prey and draws sharks on regular patrol circuits. Their silhouettes framed in the light pouring through the arch opening is one of Easter Island diving's signature images.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
