La Catedral
Easter Island · Chile
La Catedral is a majestic underwater volcanic arch on Easter Island's northeastern coast, its vaulted basalt ceiling towering 15 m above a sand floor at 22 m depth and framed by sheer walls encrusted with black coral, sponges, and crinoids. Light pours through the main arch and two secondary windows in shafts that illuminate the interior dramatically, making it one of the most photogenic dive structures in the Pacific. The site is surrounded by healthy volcanic reef colonized by endemic species, with Galapagos sharks patrolling the outside of the arch and sea turtles resting in the calmer pockets beneath the overhang.
