Painted frogfish colonise the Konanda's coral-encrusted hull in multiple colour morphs — yellow, red, black, and white individuals have all been documented on the same dive — matching the encrusting sponges that coat the wreck's exterior. Their cryptic lifestyle and remarkable camouflage make them a macro-photography target that rewards slow, systematic searching of the hull plating. Finding a new individual that guides have not previously catalogued is a common experience on this well-dived but species-rich wreck.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
