Coral Gardens
False Bay · South Africa
Coral Gardens is one of the most ecologically unusual dive sites in South Africa — a thriving subtropical coral community growing in water temperatures that would normally be far too cold for stony coral survival. The reef is a photogenic tangle of soft corals, sea fans, and encrusting hard corals in vivid oranges and pinks, all supported by the Benguela Current's extraordinary nutrient load. This cold-water coral anomaly attracts a diverse mix of temperate and subtropical reef fish, creating an unexpected biodiversity hotspot within False Bay.
