Sighting evidence at Miller's Point, False Bay

The cold, nutrient-rich waters of False Bay support exceptional nudibranch diversity, with over 30 species recorded at Miller's Point alone, many of them brilliantly coloured and found clinging to sponge and bryozoan communities on the rocky substrate. The cold upwelling that characterises the bay creates ideal conditions for the encrusting invertebrates that nudibranchs feed on, producing year-round population density unusual for South African diving. Macro photographers regard Miller's Point as one of the top five nudibranch sites on the African continent.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
