Atlantic Wolffish

Anarhichas lupus

Sighting evidence at Enniberg Wall, Faroe Islands

Atlantic wolffish are permanent residents of the Enniberg Wall, occupying crevices and overhangs along the cliff face at depths between 15 and 50 metres. In the Faroes the species benefits from some of the most productive cold water upwelling in the North Atlantic, growing to large sizes on a diet of sea urchins, mussels, and thick-shelled crabs. The combination of strong tidal currents and the sheer wall topography concentrates food resources and makes wolffish encounters highly reliable for divers willing to explore the deeper sections of the wall.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
