Brilliantly coloured males dart at the cave entrance where the light gradient attracts concentrations of zooplankton and small invertebrates. They are protogynous hermaphrodites, with dominant females transforming into the striking orange-striped supermale form. Their rapid movement and vivid colouration make them one of the most visually striking species in the Fethiye area.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
