Batu Bolong's cleaning station on the pinnacle's shallow north face is one of the most productive in the Komodo system, with mantas arriving in a steady procession and often stacking in a queue visible to divers hovering on the reef. Individuals have been photo-ID matched returning to this specific cleaning station across multiple years, suggesting strong site fidelity. The proximity of the open-water pinnacle to pelagic routes means oceanic mantas occasionally visit alongside the resident reef mantas, offering the possibility of encounters with both species on a single dive.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
