Plumose Anemone

Metridium senile

Sighting evidence at Carnota Wreck, Galicia

The Carnota Wreck's metal surfaces are colonised by dense stands of plumose anemones, whose white and cream tentacles give the wreck a ghostly, otherworldly appearance in dive torch beams. These large suspension-feeders thrive on the current-swept site, capturing copepods and other zooplankton swept in from the open Atlantic.
