Silky sharks are year-round residents at La Cazuela but peak in abundance during the productive upwelling months, when they compete with hammerheads for schooling fish. They are typically encountered in the mid-water column and are notably inquisitive, often approaching divers closely. Their slender, streamlined bodies and fluid movement make them one of the most graceful predators at the site.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
