La Cazuela
Gorgona Island · Colombia
La Cazuela is Gorgona's signature hammerhead aggregation site, where schools of scalloped hammerheads gather in the blue water column above a submerged ridge that channels upwelling currents. During peak season from July through November, groups of 20 to 100 hammerheads circle the site at mid-water depths, often accompanied by silky sharks and Pacific cownose rays. The reef base is alive with large groupers, moray eels, and clouds of snappers that attract the pelagic visitors drawn by the abundance of prey.
