Sighting evidence at La Catedral, Gran Canaria

Dense baitfish clouds pack the interior of La Catedral's tunnel, exploiting the darkness and structural complexity to shelter from predators active in the open water outside. Their near-transparent bodies with a visible lateral line and internal organs make them difficult for visually hunting predators to track individually, a schooling adaptation known as confusion effect. The aggregations pulse and contract around divers passing through the tunnel, creating one of the most visually dramatic encounters in Canarian diving.

Glassfish is listed as a curated species here based on historical reports.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
