French angelfish

French angelfish form permanent pair bonds and patrol defined territories on the pinnacles at Babylon, recognisable by their black body with distinctive yellow-edged scales and vivid yellow pectoral fin patches. They are opportunistic omnivores that consume sponges, tunicates, and algae, and are often seen shadowing other reef fish to steal morsels dislodged by their feeding. Juveniles serve as cleaner fish at established cleaning stations, picking parasites from much larger species including jacks and parrotfish.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
