French angelfish

French angelfish are among the most visually striking residents of the Molinere sculptures, their jet-black scales edged with vivid yellow making them easy to spot against the encrusted concrete figures. They are monogamous and mate for life, patrolling a shared territory and feeding on sponges, tunicates, and algae growing on the sculpture surfaces. Their grazing behaviour is ecologically important — by controlling sponge overgrowth, they help maintain the open surface area available for coral recruitment.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
