Hawksbills use the bay's sponge-rich boulders as a feeding ground, grazing on encrusting sponges that most species cannot digest. Resident individuals are regularly seen resting under ledges at 8 to 14 m, making close-range observation reliable. Nesting season peaks June through October on Chachacual's beach, bringing additional females into adjacent waters.
