Bold and territorial, king angelfish patrol the boulder slopes in pairs, their electric-white tail fins flashing against dark basalt. They feed on sponges, tunicates, and algae, playing a key role in keeping encrusting growth in check on the reef structure. Juveniles display vivid orange vertical stripes and are commonly seen in shallower rock crevices at 5 to 10 m.
