The undulated moray is the largest moray species regularly encountered at Huatulco, reaching up to 1.5 m and identifiable by its distinctive chain-link pattern. Individuals at La India are habituated to divers and are often found partially extended from crevices at 10 to 18 m, or accompanied by cleaner shrimp at dedicated cleaning stations. At night they leave the reef to hunt octopus and small fish in open sandy areas around the base of the pinnacle.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
