Green turtles are resident at Jesser Point year-round, grazing on seagrass beds in the shallows and resting on coral ledges where cleaner wrasse service them. Nesting females haul out on Tofo Beach between November and February, and hatchlings observed near the point in late February represent the direct offshore dispersal of local nesting events. Divers regularly encounter 5-10 individuals per dive, making this one of the most turtle-dense sites in Mozambique.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
