Hammerhead schools of 20-50 individuals patrol the deeper water off the point during June through September, drawn by the same upwelling productivity that attracts whale sharks in the warmer months. The cephalofoil's electroreceptor arrays make hammerheads highly efficient predators of stingrays buried in the adjacent sand flats, and divers descending to 25-30 metres may witness hunting behaviour. Encounters require calm conditions and typically occur at dawn before boat traffic disperses the schools.

Scalloped Hammerhead is listed as a curated species here based on historical reports.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
