Resident spinner dolphin pods of 50-200 individuals use the waters off Specific Point as a resting area after nightly offshore feeding runs, often bow-riding dive boats on morning transits to the site. Their aerial spinning behaviour is thought to communicate within-group status and remove parasites, making surface interactions as rewarding as in-water encounters. Divers entering the water quietly near resting pods may be approached by curious individuals before the group moves offshore.

Spinner Dolphin is listed as a curated species here based on historical reports.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
